Kentucky & Indiana Pin Design Contest

Ohio Steampunk Society pin

Back in 2009 the Ohio Steampunk Society was formed and adopted a steampunked version of the Buckeye flag as its emblem. Last year The Pandora Society began producing pins of the flag and they have become very popular . . . even Paul McGann (the 8th Doctor Who) has one.

2014 also saw the formal formation of the Kentucky Steampunk Society and the Indiana Steampunk Society, and both are in need of an emblem and pin, which is why we are having a pin design contest for both, giving four opportunities to win!

Between now and February 16th, 2015 we will be accepting design entries for both Kentucky and Indiana and then displaying the entries for a public popular vote and well as a judge’s choice winner from The Pandora Society.

Kentucky-state-sealThe source material for the Kentucky Steampunk Society is the state’s seal which actually features a chap in a frock coat as a good start, but what can you do to add that steampunk touch? Beyond providing the basic source material we don’t want to give much else direction because we are excited to see where your creativity goes with this one.

I have several ideas, but again we want to see what your creativity can do to transform this state emblem into the official steampunk logo of Indiana.

You don’t have to reside in either Kentucky or Indiana to enter, this contest is open to anyone anywhere! Well, a few restrictions apply . . .

  • Must be 18 years of age or older to enter.
  • You may only submit one entry per state per person (two entries total).
  • By submitting a design you are giving The Pandora Society permission to use that image.
  • Prizes will be awarded within 60 days of selection of winner.
  • No substitutes allowed for prizes.
  • All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply.

So what are the prizes?

There are two prizes for both the Kentucky and Indiana pin winners . . .

Winner of the Judge’s Choice will receive a VIP Weekend Badge to the International Steampunk Symposium* and ten pins when the final design is actually produced ($150 value).

Winners of the Popular Vote will receive a Weekend Badge to the International Steampunk Symposium* and a pin of the produced design ($70 value).

* The badges are transferable to either another person, or to the 2016 International Steampunk Symposium if you are unable to attend this April.

The winners will be announced at the March Cincinnati Steampunk Salon on March 7th, 2015, and published on this site on March 9th, 2015.

. . . and yes it is possible to win in multiple ways; it’s even possible to win in all four categories at once if your entries win both the Popular Vote and the Judge’s Choice for both states.

So how does one enter?

Once your design is ready for entry, upload the image somewhere and fill out the form below. The winning entries will later submit a higher resolution copy of the image via email, but for entry all we need is a URL link to where you have the image stored online. Voting begins on February 17th, 2015.
