Fleet of Fleece – Will You Answer the Call?

Join Her Royal Airship Ashanti from 1:30 to 3:30 PM on Saturday, February 20th, for the first-ever Fleet of Fleece event! HRA Ashanti and friends will be making several no-sew blankets to donate to the Cincinnati chapter of Project Linus in the craft room at the Colerain Township Michael’s (9657 Colerain Ave Cincinnati, OH 45251).

Each February, Project Linus hosts its annual “Make a Blanket Day.” This organization has been supporting local communities for more than 20 years, providing the gift of new, handmade blankets to children who are seriously ill and/or traumatized. With chapters all over the country, they have been able to create and/or collect more than 350 blankets every month so that they can distribute them to children in hospitals, shelters, social service agencies or anywhere that “a child might be in need of a big hug.”

If you’d like to participate in the Fleet of Fleece, simply:

1) Contact your local chapter of Project Linus to figure out their current needs. There are two ways to participate in “Make a Blanket Day”:

  • Attend and volunteer at your local chapter’s event
  • Host an event to create blankets or collect materials or gather money to donate to your local chapter. You can find contact information on the chapter closest to you under “Volunteer” tab on the www.projectlinus.com.

2) Join HRA Ashanti’s “Fleet of Fleece” Facebook page located at https://www.facebook.com/FleetOfFleece/

3) Schedule a local event during the month of February for “Make a Blanket Day” and post it to the “Fleet of Fleece” Facebook page. If you can’t sew, don’t worry. There are several patterns that are simple and easy, and only require that you how to cut material and tie knots. For sanitary requirements on creating blankets for donation, please visit the FAQs on www.projectlinus.com.

Whether it’s contacting your local chapter or coming up with your own blanket pattern ideas, HRA Ashanti would be more than happy to assist you throughout the process any way we can.
