Cincinnati Geek Club Reboot . . . Success!

Last night saw the reboot of the Cincinnati Geek Club after a two and a half year hiatus. Previously Roxx Electro Cafe had been home to this enthusiastic group of nerds, but when Roxx closed on October 2012 the whole thing came to a grinding halt . . . until now.

Over two dozen local dorks, nerds, and geeks came to the Club’s new home of Molly Malone’s in Covington, KY and made merry with food, drink, conversation, and gaming while in the background Flash Gordon (1980) and The Last Starfighter (1984) played on the wall. Minus the costuming, the evening had the distinct feel of a miniature science fiction convention. It was largely the same crowd who gathers each month for the Cincinnati Steampunk Salon, but the evening is far more laid back without any need to dress up . . . it’s the casual version of the Salon 🙂

Whereas the Salon saves a lot of open space for milling around or dancing, the Geek Club had ample tables for people to start a game of something . . . the event format is very casual; if you want to start a game, then just grab an empty table and set up. Perhaps as things grow we’ll have to get more scheduled with the tables, but for now it’s just working on a first come basis. People also brought things in to exhibit such as old comics, or fandom magazines from decades past, and there were just many enthusiastic conversations about books, games, movies, and so on.

As long as attendance grows, we are pleased to announce that the Cincinnati Geek Club is once more a thing, and all are invited to join the fun . . . if you wish to RSVP, please visit the Facebook page and let us know that that you’re coming 🙂
