Ceremonial Sashes, Medals, & Pins.

Ladies & Gentlemen of the Aether and attendees of the International Steampunk Symposium, with the increase number of excellent pins and medals that people are sporting at Steampunk events we have noticed that people are running out of room on their lapels and such, but we have also noticed those who have begun collecting their pins on elaborate sashes.

For the 2015 International Steampunk Symposium we are humbly proposing that attending airships and steampunk groups consider designing matching sashes in their ship’s colors to wear for formal events such as Opening and Closing Ceremonies, and the Saturday night Symposium Ball.

LodewijkNemoursWilliam_in_uniformHistorically sashes have been worn off either shoulder, but the Symposium recommendation is the left shoulder to the right hip (as pictured above and to the right). A sash makes an ideal place to collect your various honors, pins, and decorations in one place and we also have recommendations on how to organize your collection of pins.

Seal_Clan_of_Teks_purple_copper_smallWhere the sash crosses your heart, one should place any pins associated with your primary Airship or Group, including regional and state pins if they apply. Above this section should be honors and awards. Below could be pins from different events and conventions attended; below this, pins from other friendly groups and airships.

Plus since its first year, the International Steampunk Symposium has had a commemorative pin to mark each year

The 2014 Symposium actually had THREE different pin designs.

We should make a note that not all Symposium attendees are members of an airship, but may still wish to wear a sash of their own design, and many won’t want to wear a sash at all . . . this just a fun suggestion and as with all things Steampunk, you have the freedom to make your own choices and respect the choices of others (as long as it’s all consensual) . . . but should your airship or group decide to have matching sashes, this is a great way to display your Airship pride without having to have complete matching outfits.

At the 2015 International Steampunk Symposium, not only will we have the new MMXV pin, but we shall also be selling the NEW Kentucky Steampunk Society pins and the Indiana Steampunk Society pins
