The Matrix 4 and 5?

They are not the sequels we deserve, and certainly not the ones we need right now, but it doesn’t look like the Wachowskis care about that.

According to Neo himself, we could very well be getting two more sequels to one of the best scifi movies of all time. Whether these sequels will be as terrible as the last ones is anyone’s guess, but the Wachowskis have a mottled track record, and returning to chew the cud of their greatest former glory does not bode well.

Again, according to Neo, the Wachowskis have already made script treatments and are in a conversation with James Cameron about technology. The siblingss hope to shoot the sequels in 3D, which would actually be fairly fitting for The Matrix, but they have something else up their sleeve, because apparently they aren’t sure the tech is ready for what they have envisioned yet.

Still, this is all hearsay from Mr. Reeves, who dropped this digitized nugget in the press’s lap during promotion for a more recent film. It’s entirely possible that the continuation of The Matrix saga will never come together, like so many other plans in Hollywood (we’re looking at you, Hellboy 3).

But what if it does? Would they be able to get the old cast back together? Would the world feel right without Morpheus? Or Agent Smith? Hugo Weaving is an amazing actor, but his attitude towards superheroes in general waned dramatically after he played Red Skull in Captain America. He is happily pursuing a varied career, as are Fishburne and Carrie Anne Moss. The Wachowskis must remember that blockbusters are not made by Mr. Reeves alone.

What would the story be without Agent Smith?
