The Houses of Pandoracon

030715 PC 2016 Banner

Since its inception, the Houses have been an essential part of the Pandoracon experience. During both Pandoracon 2012 and Pandoracon 2013, attendees were divided into four houses named after the traditional deck of playing cards . . . Clubs, Diamonds, Hearts, and Spades. Each house competed in various games and contests throughout the weekend tallying points to find out which house won that year . . . the simple explanation is “it’s rather like the houses at Hogwarts.” For the first year attendees were simply given a house, during the second year the houses campaigned and recruited, but for Pandoracon 2016 we are putting more of the decision making into the hands of the attendees.

Cyberpunk Raid 680

For the weekend of November 11th-13th, 2016 you can pick whichever house you wish, but which one is the right choice for you?

Queen of ClubsThe House of Clubs

Clubs could be weapons, clubs can also represent scepters in tarot decks, symbols of leadership, or clubs could be a gathering of people . . . accepting and compassionate. Much like Hufflepuff at Hogwarts, the House of Clubs is an ideal match for the team players who want to see everyone win.

Clerics and healers are drawn to the House of Clubs.

Compassion is the word that sums up the House of Clubs.

Queen of DiamondsThe House of Diamonds

Diamonds are clear, crystal clear, like the highly trained mind of an intellectual. Much like Ravenclaw at Hogwarts, the House of Diamonds is an ideal match for the cerebral attendees who prefer logic.

Mages, vulcans, programmers, and academics are to drawn the House of Diamonds.

Intellect is the word that sums up the House of Diamonds.

Queen of HeartsThe House of Hearts

The Latin for heart is cor, which later evolved into coeur in French, cuore in Italian, corazon in Spanish, and the word courage in English. Much like Gryffindor at Hogwarts, the House of Hearts is an ideal match for those who like to shine the light of inspiration.

Paladins, klingons, political revolutionaries, and ship captains are drawn to the House of Hearts

Courage is the word that sums up the House of Hearts.

CP Queen of SpadesThe House of Spades

The Ace of Spades is the “death card” giving the whole suit a rather dark and macabre feeling. Much like Slytherin at Hogwarts, the House of Spades is an ideal match for the ambitious who are not bound by conventional rules.

Assassins, vampires, romulans, dark mages and witches, and others that reside in the shadows are drawn to the House of Spades.

Ambition is the word that sums up the House of Spades.

Although the queens of each house have yet to be announced, rest assured each queen leading a house will reflect the personality of that house.

But how does one declare their house allegiance? When picking up your Multi-Pass (AKA con badge) you can mark your badge with your House insignia, and then in 2018 you can decide another House if you wish, or remain loyal to the House that best suits you. Or . . . if you wish to remain neutral you have the option of picking no house . . . it’s totally up to you 🙂
