This year the Steampunk Empire Symposium formed a partnership with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) to raise money in donations and to help increase awareness. The Symposium’s fund raiser saw people purchasing “priority” wristbands to see Voltaire perform, people buying raffle tickets for amazing prizes donated by Symposium vendors and members, and most popular was the Steampunk Fett vs. Fett Bounty Hunt for Charity.

Symposium attendees visited the NAMI table and Steampunk Jabba to take out bounties on their “friends” by making a donation. The name and picture of the bounty was then transmitted to both Steampunk Boba Fetts (John Strangeway and Danny Ashby) who then competed throughout the day to find the most bounties and “freeze” them in carbonite. At closing ceremonies NAMI announced that John Strangeway was the winner with the most captures and the highest bounties collected.

In total over eleven hundred dollars was raised for NAMI and we are hoping that next year we can push that number even higher. Special thanks to Aiesha Little for working hard as the Symposium’s charity liaison, and thanks to Heather Turner, Maribeth Turner, Mindy Hood, and other NAMI representatives for joining us this weekend. It was a lot of fun and we look forward to working with NAMI again.
