Symposium Rules & Anti-Harassment

Ten Simple Guidelines

For the comfort and safety of all attending the Symposium, please abide by these common sense rules:

1. You must wear your membership badge at all times to be admitted to any convention function.

2. Possession of alcoholic beverages by anyone under 21 years of age is grounds for expulsion from the convention without refund.

3. Please keep all behavior that polite attendees would find publicly offensive in your hotel rooms.

4. International Steampunk Symposium LLC and Associates are not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged property, or for injuries sustained during the course of the convention.

5. Announced events and guests are subject to change and/or cancellation without notice. Every effort will be made to announce any changes via the Internet and pre-convention publications but sometimes last-minute changes will occur.

6. We reserve the right to ask you to leave the convention and refuse to refund your membership money if you are behaving in an uncivilized manner and/or violate the Symposium’s Anti-Harassment Policy (see below)

7. Abide by our weapons policy.

8. No horseplay in the common areas. Any weapon used in an offensive manner will be confiscated and rule #6 enforced.

9. Please do not abuse our hotels facilities or hotel staff. Room Parties and other announcements may be dropped off at our Information Desk.

10. Wear appropriate clothing in the common areas; nudity needs to remain in the hotel guest rooms.

Anti-Harassment Policy

International Steampunk Symposium’s convention committee wants this convention to be a safe, enjoyable convention for everyone. To this end, everyone with a International Steampunk Symposium badge is required to abide by this code of conduct.

International Steampunk Symposium  has a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY for harassment. Harassment is generally any behavior that annoys, alarms, or threatens another person or group of any kind, including but not limited to:

  • Stalking
  • offensive verbal comments
  • non-consensual photography
  • unwelcome physical attention
  • intimidation
  • physical assault and/or battery

In relation to, but not limited to:

  • Race
  • Color
  • National Origin
  • Gender
  • Gender Identity
  • Gender Presentation
  • Sexual Orientation
  • Age
  • Body Size
  • Disability
  • Appearance
  • Religion
  • Citizenship
  • Pregnancy

Our policy applies to EVERYONE at the convention. Exhibitors, entertainers, attendees, speakers, guests, professionals, press, staff, volunteers and security are all subject to our anti-harassment policy and will be held to the same standards and disciplinary action.

Harassment of convention members online or in electronic venues will be treated as seriously as physical harassment.

If a person engages in harassing behavior the International Steampunk Symposium (ISS) staff will take prompt action in any form they deem appropriate, including expulsion from ISS with no refund and may result in expulsion and/or long term suspension of your future eligibility for ISS membership.

Anyone can report harassment. If someone’s behavior has made you uncomfortable you should immediately contact a member of ISS staff or security team or call our hotline 984-NO Harm 0 (984-664-2760) and someone will meet you. If necessary we will provide escort, offer a safe place and assist anyone experiencing harassment to make sure they are and feel safe for the entirety of the Convention. We will also contact local law enforcement if it is necessary and stay with you until they arrive.

In all cases where someone has told you or demonstrated that they do not wish to interact with you, do not contact them in any fashion, including through an intermediary, unless and until they approach you of their own initiative. Just as you do not owe anyone your time, your attention, or physical contact, no one owes you theirs.

If you wish to report an incident after the convention, or would like to express your concern about an incident that occurred outside of ISS involving a convention attendee, you may email our anti-harassment committee (noharm@thepandorasociety.com) at anytime.

International Steampunk Symposium wants everyone to have a fun, enjoyable and entertaining event.

  • Hello, my name is Ryan. I am intrigued by Steampunk and have always wanted to go to a convention. Do I have to be a part of a group in order to attend? I saw the info on the upcoming event and would like to go. Thank you for your time.

    • Ryan, the Symposium is open to anyone 🙂

The are one day tickets for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, or you can get a Weekend pass and save money.

  • Aloysius Fox, thank you for the info.

  • I am also interested in learning more about Steampunk. And would like to go on Friday but have a concern. Are attendees required to be in Steampunk attire?
