Memorial day weekend was the harbinger of schools end and a foretaste of summer festivities.  The first weekend in June brought on the fun in full force to the Great Lakes States.  This past weekend saw an invasion of Pirates and Wenches to Augusta, Michigan’s Olde World Village with their Buccaneer Bash.

This weekend, June 12-14, 2015, the Windy City will be hosting the largest Blues festival in the world!  From 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. you can get your blues on for free with over half a million other music fans on the Chicago Blues Festival’s five stages.  The lineup includes Buddy Guy, Johnny RawlsDee Dee BridgewaterButler, Bernstein & The Hot 9, John Primer and many more!

Now if that isn’t enough entertainment for you and you want some fun of a more mature variety, you can also catch the Windy City Burlesque Festival Wednesday June 10 through Saturday night the 13th.  During the day catch classes, seminars, vendors, and exhibitionists exhibitors to learn the ins and outs, and bumps and grinds of the trade and get costumed up for yourself.  Come later for a lineup of featured performers from Canada to Texas, including New York City’s Tigger!, Vancouver’s Lola Frost and Melody Mangler, St Louis’ Lola Van Ella, Austin’s Coco Lectric and Jolie Goodnight, Chicago’s home stage favorites Po’Chop, Ray Ray Sunshine, Tila Von Twirl, and Bazuka Joe, plus the legendary Tiffany Carter.

On the weekend of June 19 – 21, you will want to return to Michigan for more steamy fun at the Olde World Village’s Steam Dream Expo.  Fresh from the Steampunk World’s Fair (the largest Steampunk festival in the world) Eli August and the Abandoned Buildings will be turning up the steam with their unique brand of Steampunk Rock.  You can close the evening with Chicago’s Steampunk musician and DJ, Vourteque!  Vourteque has just come out with a new album, “The Iron and Jazz Age” so give it a listen, check out the Vourteque Facebook fan page, and show him some love.  The whole weekend will be be packed with a wide variety of performances for the whole family and some special performance for the more mature crowd later in the evening.

Rounding out this musical month is another record setter with the worlds largest music festival, Milwaukee’s Summerfest from June 24-28 and then continuing June 30 – July 5th.  If you have never been to Summerfest you are in for a treat.  This years headliners include The Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, Linkin Park, Carrie Underwood, Neil Young and Promise of Real, Foghat, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Kansas, Smashmouth, The Doobie Brothers, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, and…  the list goes on and on so check it out yourself!

If you are bored in the Great Lakes States this summer, you only have yourself to blame, and don’t forget to bring some extra spending money and check out the wonderful treasures of the vendors, exhibitors, artists, and craftsmen!
