Off to the Ball

DSCF4540 (2)Last night, party-goers at the International Steampunk Symposium began their night with a special treat: a formal ball hosted by DJ Doctor Q of the Artifice Club and Sir Reginald Pikedevant, word-slinger extraordinaire.

DSCF4465Although the festivities began a little later than expected, a crowd waited with good form just outside the doors, eager to begin the dance. Once the doors opened, the first couple took the floor before the waiting masses had even finished pouring into the room. Earlier in the day, dance instructors taught groups of Symposium attendees some basic ballroom dances, including a waltz and polka. The instructors attended the ball themselves, encouraging folks onto the dance floor and leading several group dances themselves.

All ages spun into the show, ranging from families with small children, to couples who have celebrated many anniversaries. Some moved as well as the instructors, and some were too swept up in the moment to give a fig for form.

During the transition from formal ball to ‘informal,’ Sir Reginald Pikedevant tickled our fancies with wit and rhyme. His rival interrupted the performance from across the continent via special aether projection, and I am happy to report that Sir Pikedevant bested his opponent soundly.

The party continued with a special musical presentation from DJ Doctor Q, taking us around the world in 80 minutes.

A good time was had by all!

  • Sounds amazing! I met some of the attendees while shopping at Jungle Jims yesterday. Very sorry I missed the event this year, but promise The First Doctor will be there next year, in all his arrogant glory!
