Midsummer Masquerade – July 16th, 2011

The very first Cincinnati Midsummer Masquerade happened in 2010 with the Masked Cabaret, and before the night was over people were already looking forward to next year’s masquerade. The second masquerade was held on July 16th, 2011, and that was the year that the show went from being known as The Masked Cabaret to the name that we know it by today. The location was once more Loveland Castle.

Roughly 250 people crammed the modest castle grounds and were delighted by performances from: Dante’s Gypsy Circus Belly Dancing and Fire, Robbin Marks Magic, Pickled Brothers Circus, Oakley the Faerie Viola and Fiddle, Tree of Life world music, and MC Aloysius.

It became apparent in 2011 that the show had already outgrown the Loveland Castle grounds, but we continued there for another three Midsummer Masquerades after that because we could not imagine a better place for it.

It was in 2011 that the Midsummer Masquerade developed a more fairy folk feeling, especially with Oakley the Faerie wandering the castle grounds with her fiddle, and there were more and more people dressed with wings. The advantage of fairy attire is that it is much better suited for the hotter July nights, and truly made the masquerade feel like something out of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

The show to follow the 2011 Midsummer Masquerade was the first Cincinnati Time Travelers’ Ball at what was once the Southgate House, but more about that another day.
