Starting this week we present a weekly feature to review the highlights of this week’s articles and offer a few suggestions for what you might wish to do with your weekend.

2014 Costume Contest Vote 250x250Casablanca 680x400This month’s Costume Contest continues to pull in the votes, and this week saw a change in the top three contestants. The final results will be announced on July 5th at the Cincinnati Steampunk Salon where we shall also declare July’s contest and drawing (yep, more opportunities to win shiny stuff each month).

Yesterday we launched our Getting to Know You Better poll in order to get feedback and help us make The Pandora Society dot com a better site for you. In less than 24 hours we’ve received some great suggestions and will listen to your advice as we continue to grow this site.

Marion Last ScenehqdefaultIn our Geek Culture articles this week, we concluded our analysis of Raiders of the Lost Ark‘s Marion Ravenwood, explored what it meant to be a geek or nerd and what triggers our fandoms, we beamed back to 1979 for the Star Trek Happy Meal, and today we continued the third installment of our look at Doctor Who’s greatest enemy, The Master.

With the Steampunk Symposium we added the details of two more hotels for April 2015 as our second Symposium hotel was reported to be “fully booked.” The Symposium looks like it is experiencing a growth spurt for 2015, and yesterday it also got referenced alongside DragonCon in an Grammy’s article on Goth culture that appears on their official site! Suffice to say, we are both astonished and thrilled at how the Symposium’s fourth year looks like the year that our humble convention gets recognized as a national show.

2014.05 Yard SaleNAMI table SES 2014Tomorrow we are holding our Steampunk Yard Sale to raise funds for the Symposium and for our charity partner NAMI, so if you’re near Cincinnati swing by because “one Steampunk’s junk is another Steampunk’s latest invention.”

This weekend also sees the ConTemporal Steampunk Convention in Raleigh, North Carolina.

So what are your exciting plans for this weekend? Please leave us a comment below to say what’s happening in your region this weekend 🙂
