Birth year movies

I blogged about this years ago on my personal blog, but I think those at Pandoracon.com will get a kick out of this exercise too, so I’m going to revisit it.

http:/www.imdb.com , which is my defacto source for movie data (not necessarily movie details) has a database that is useful for all kinds of interesting data and facts about movies. So of course every movie on IMDB lists the year it was released, and years ago I decided to find out how many movies I had seen were released the year I was born. The page that lists all the years isn’t intuitive to find when surfing the site, but it’s got a simple URL:

http://www.imdb.com/year/

So I was born in 1971, and of the 50 most popular results for movies from that year, these are the movies I’ve seen:

A Clockwork Orange
Willy Wonka
Dirty Harry
Billy Jack
Big Jake
Diamonds Are Forever
Fiddler on the Roof
Fists of Fury
THX 1138
The Andromeda Strain
And Now for Something Completely Different
The Omega Man
Bedknobs and Broomsticks (a terrible movie)
Escape from Planet of the Apes

I’m sure if I sorted by something other than popularity, I’d find several more movies I’ve seen, cause let’s face it, I have an affinity for some bad movies. It’s not surprise that the list above has a lot of Sci FI and Fantasy in it, but as you can see I’m not ONLY into those kinds of movies. I had planned before to try to see more of my birth year movies, and I’ve picked up a few from the last time I checked. I think now I may look deeper into the cheesiest of the movies from that year, and try to find them on DVD or Netflix.

So let us know in the comments how many movies from YOUR birth year you have seen. And perhaps a little analysis about your results. Come on, it will be fun!
