Cincinnati Steampunk Salon – December 2015 Report

There were several news faces at this month’s Cincinnati Steampunk Salon, which is always a thrill each month when more and more people learn about the Salon. It is a wonderful thing to see people enter this safe space and shine with that feeling of having found their people as they are welcomed into the tribe of elegantly dressed misfits. A number of regulars were unable to make it this weekend, but they were certainly there in spirit.

Many people dressed in festive colors, especially white and cream colored items that invoked the sense of snow. In December 2014, we held a gift exchange, but this year it was decided to wait a month until the January Salon and celebrate Regiftus instead by each bringing a “recycled” gift after the holidays to put under the Regiftus tree. For those wanting to buy presents, however, the Pandora Society Store was set up in the corner raising funds for the International Steampunk Symposium by selling modified Nerf guns, pins, and vintage style clothing.

The social time of the Salon ran until about 10:30PM, and then it was time for announcements and such . . . actually there wasn’t really that much to announce other than next month’s new event Noir, and to celebrate the birthdays of all the December babies at the Salon. It was shortly after announcements that we decided to have an impromptu dance party; nothing had been planned, but DJ Doc Martin was there and within minutes had some Noir style tunes spinning for the Salon’s dancing pleasure; there actually were more people dancing (without any special lights) than the times that we have planned dances. DJ Doc Martin’s playlist was a preview of Noir and people definitely liked it!

The next Cincinnati Steampunk Salon is scheduled for January 2nd, 2015; please visit the official Facebook Event Page to learn more and to RSVP 🙂
